Joe, Jane, Jack, James, Jill and Doctor Who - Labour's manifesto videos

If the Conservatives are winning the poster campaign war, then the incumbent Labour Party are certainly winning the video campaign war.

Today with the launch of the Labour Party's election 2010 manifesto (download a PDF copy here) comes the unveiling of two Labour videos to spread their election messages.

The first, shown just before Gordon Brown took to the stage to officially launch the 76-page document, it is an innovative, fun and straight-forward, straight-talking animated cartoon - which has spawned a few spin-offs by the Party, one for each chapter. The main one is shown below for your enjoyment.

The second, to begin appearing in advert breaks on a TV near you from this evening, is a rather more adult affair, and a masterful piece of work. Starring Sean Pertwee, a son of a former Doctor Who, and former Doctor Who himself David Tennant, 'the Road Ahead' as it is entitled is a great advert that carries a very simple message - is to stay on this improving road and not to take the Tory diversion.

The man walking along the road, symbolising Britain's economy, is faced with a choice at a junction: continue along in a straight line uphill (not-so hidden message: continuing the recovery will not easy) or turning off the road down a side-road that leads, unsurprisingly, downhill.

The man opts to continue straight on, accompanied with the voice-over by the former Doctor Who.

A great advert and a great message - now let's see what the Tory's can come up with...
