Afghan President Hamid Karzai has ruled out any permanent bases in Afghanistan:
Afghan President Hamid Karzai's government has totally rejected the suggestion that US military bases should be made permanent in Afghanistan.
At a press conference on Monday, chief presidential spokesman Waheed Omar said the issue had never been discussed in meetings between Kabul and Washington.

He said remarks from a senior US congressman, who has called for permanent US military bases in Afghanistan, were not in line with talks that had been going on with the US for a long-term strategic partnership.
